SB LYRICS

I SPIT 4 YOU!

(SB)
Sean “SB” Butler

This song was inspired by a statement made by a Chicago producer (who will remain nameless) about his perception of my direction as an artist. The statement he made really made me feel as though he had no understanding of why it is I make the music. So I was inspired to break it down once and for all for him and anyone else that has a doubt as to why I “spit” the way that I do as opposed to rapping like many of my contemporaries about “ice”, drugs, money, misogyny, vulgarity, illicit sexual encounters, etc. :)

I Spit 4 You!

Written by: Sean “SB: Butler

1st verse

I spit 4 children of the ghetto, surrounded by rock, like heavy metal
That’s never seen the beauty of the ocean nor a meadow
The system’s steady pulling their strings, just like Japetto
But I swear I’ll never settle till I free em’ from the Devil!
I spit 4 black babies trying to keep their hope alive
In a world that’s trying to take away their hunger to survive
I spit 4 lost sheep that never dream of universities
That can’t see above their situations and adversities
Whose only real role models are gangsters
That cock back the bangers to channel their anger
BLAOWWW!!!
Rise and fall like the movement of the DOW
They say revolution’s coming but I say the time is NOW!
I put that on my mother and everything that I hold dear
Covered by the waters of faith, so I don’t feel fear
Cause you ain’t living till you willing to die
I’m sick and tired of my people living just to get by!
I spit 4 all my ancestors that are dead in the Atlantic
Fed to shark-infested waters, makes me wanna go manic!
Color of money? They should change it to red!
Cause it’s soaked in the blood of my people, blood of the dead!

Hook

And I’m spitting 4 you
For all my soldiers, past and the present
The cause is not lost and I got the message
So I’m gonna spread love so God can keep blessing me too!
Said I’m spitting 4 you

2nd verse

I’m seeing, slaveships that made the Amistad look like a cruise
That never once got the chance to take revenge on the crews
Ain’t no limit to the evil men do
Hey yo, a war on terrorism means a war against you, “Uncle Sam!”
The biggest terrorist the world has EVER known
Stole land from indigineous people and called it “home”
Knew it was theirs, but you called it your own
Still you got the nerve to wonder why you’ve reaped what you’ve sown!
I remember all the blankets that you laced with the flu
But you don’t call it terrorism till it’s done against you!
I know the plan, and yeah, I know exactly who I am
I’m original man, the one that built the pyramids in the sand
The one’s you still can’t build with your machines or your hand
The seed of Abraham, raised in the true motherland
Miss America’s the queen of the damned
A blood-sucking vampire, so a lot of men ran
But yo, you better understand, SB gon’ stand
You steady telling me I can’t, when I know that I can!
Even if I gotta rock it as a one man band
The only weapons that I need are the paper and pen!

Hook

Dirty South…I spit 4 you!
The Midwest…I spit 4 you!

3rd verse
I spit 4 thugs that’s incarcerated
Caught in the matrix
Cause I know their just a product of the fear and the hatred!
Constantly told that their never gon’ make it
But the spell that they cast on my people, I came to break it!
I wasn’t born yesterday, know that there’s a better way
Know I’ll find the answer through God, drop to my knees and pray
Cause I was sent to wake the people from the coma their in
Stop them from drowning all their troubles in the weed and the gin
Cause yo, them problems still there when your high is all gone
I hope you’re listening, this is much more than a song!
An antidote that you can take and it can make ya’ll strong!
We’ve been sedated by the poison for much too long!
I’ve seen the night but yo, I still see the light in the dawn!
Long as I’m here and I’m breathing, ya’ll, believe that it’s on!
Cause I was born to fight, born to ignite and born with sight to conquer the blight!
Fight for what’s right!
Cause in my dreams I can still hear the screams
Still see the slaves getting raped in their teens
Telling me the carry the torch
Even if my people still don’t understand and wanna sit on the porch, I spit 4 you!

Hook

Steven Biko…I spit 4 you!
Nelson Mandela…I spit 4 you!
Fannie Lou Hamer…I spit 4 you!
MFDP…I spit 4 you

I KNOW SEAN

(SB)
Sean “SB” Butler

This song was written literally in five minutes while I was in the study with Tye Hill & DJ Thunder (collectively known as The Mighty Productionix). I heard the beat, was inspired, wrote it on my Blackberry and laid it down that same day. Sometimes when I’m inspired the words just flow and this was an example of me really being in the zone…seriously, five minutes. Not bragging or anything, just thought that you guys would be interested in that tidbit. Anyway, I guess it came so easily because it summed up the way I feel about most of the rappers that are out nowadays and also an ode to all of the people that have been down with SB since day one, particularly my collegiate comrades all across the US and overseas.

“I Know Sean” by Sean “SB” Butler

1st verse

These rappers ain’t ready to spar
Better play like Tracey Chapman and find a fast car
I’m sicker than the bird flu, ebola and the SARS
Hard to believe like tetrahedran shapes out on Mars
In the mic like a virus in your system, lay ya down
Flat on ya back like your father better listen
My style like the antidote ya missing
I’m an audio physician
Sending musical cancer into remission, “Gone!”
Ain’t a rapper that’s out, nicer than Sean
Man, my last name’s Butler
I serve ya before I cut ya!
These backward emcees
Short term like memory
After nights with the blunts and the shots Hennessee
They’re blank pages
My pen is amazing
Way it engages
Souls from unanimous ages
With a flow something similar to Dizzie Gillespie’s
Wanna know the source?
The Creator that blessed me, hot!
Know it’s me when I’m up in the spot
Cause I’m everything ya love
And everything you’re not
I’m something like Kong when I jump on the song
Used to think that you was Big
Now you see you was wrong, “Unnnh”!
Take you back to the essence
Burn you in hell, eternally for your verbal transgressions
I’m like an Einstein when it comes to the rhyme
I’m bending particles of light so I can travel in time
Meet your mom’s just so I can be your father
Way that ya rhyme, it’s obvious that the coward didn’t bother
To teach you how to stand as a man
See even when they came 30 deep, yapping their gums, I never ran
I just get down like a quote from James Brown
Pitcher on the mound of this rap game, I’m wound!
Here comes the pitch….GAMES OVER!

Hook

I know Sean!
I got a memory of SB rocking a show at a university
Before the world ever heard of these
I seen him easily, get on the mic and kill it perfectly!

Repeat

2nd verse

Who’d ya think that it was?
I get a buzz like I’m drinking from a jug
When I give the mic slugs!
I tr-transform like the resident evil
Hunt down ya people it won’t be a sequel, ha!
Killing em with all type of venom and
Don’t go there he rhyme like it’s ten of em!
Better bring the army and the navy and the head doctor
This dude is crazy nice
Been know to pay the crazy price
Better learn how to play me right
You try to play me light
You try to play me light
Well then we’re gonna plainly fight!

Hook

3rd verse

I back down for no man
Not even Ulysses
So watch what will happen, ya diss me
Poke ya third eye like the son of Poseidon
Laugh, tell you my name, than my people’s are riding, yeah
Why you trying to tongue wrestle a bear
I smell fish in the air
You’re entering my lair, yeah…

Hook

MADE FOR LOVE

(SB)

This song was written specifically to combat the misogyny that’s present not only in urban music but also in everday life. My attempt was show men how it feels to be a woman and be mistreated at the club, work and even at home. My hope is that we will learn to truly love and respect our women as the gifts from God that they are.

Made 4 Love by Sean “SB” Butler

Hook

We fit together like a hand and glove
Sent down as a gift from the man above
You’re worth, more than the ice and the bottles of bub
Best believe you were made for love
You were made for love

1st verse

Hey yo, queens, put ya hands up
Kings, better stand up
Revolusean is here, it’s time to man up!
My ladies tell me that it’s hard trying to find a man
That’s like looking for rare stones in quicksand
Cause we don’t really understand
What it takes to make it work between man and woman
We lost in the lust so we long to touch
Wrapped up in things we can hold and clutch
See all you came to do is dance
Have a little fun
But he came to get his rocks off
Point his little gun at ya
Feminine figure the plot gets thicker
Cause dude getting even sicker with the shots of liquor
You’re like, later for his, release my wrist
But he had to do the fool, went and called ya “unnhh”
But yo, you keep it moving don’t get caught in the hype
Leave the club with your life
He the ignorant type
It don’t matter, queen

Hook

2nd verse

Ok it’s Monday, back to the office
Way that you’re treated at work
Is now the topic
Ya bend over, your’e good pen, you dropped
Wolf eyes, staring at you, ya like stop it
The VP of the VP’s
Your’e getting money
But when the men they address you
It’s still honey
It’s like they try to undress you
It feel funny
But no your’e not a playmate
Nor a playbunny
Same job but the pay not equal
In fact you do way more work than he do
Mr. Misogynist, King Gynecologist
Only feels prominent when he reigns dominant
Intimidated his power annhialated
It’s not that he’s sorry ya made it
He straight hate it
Just a scared, little boy
With a broke, little toy
Can’t give, women joy
So he out, to destroy
It don’t matter…

Hook

3rd verse

On top of all of that
You’re coming back home
To another type of man
With a problem of his own
You walk in the door but he lost in the tv
Thinking to yourself, “Now I know that he sees me!”
No type of kiss or hug, get no love
“Can I get a back rub, or a bath in the tub?”
At least a “Hello, Bay, how was your’e day?”
Way he never pays attention you would swear he was gay
But you’re a daughter of Eve, meant to receive
The L-O-V-E that you send me
Made from the rib to protect my heart
Perfect companion and helpmate from the start
That’s why I treasure you, a work of art
Created two of a kind, just like the animals in Noah’s ark
Love to open up doors, what’s mine is yours
You mi amore, can’t ignore
You I adore, now let’s soar!

Angelz

(SB)
Angelz by Sean “SB” Butler (hook written and performed by Norah Jones)Intro:This is the story of a young lady
Somebody we probably all know
Somebody’s sister…
Somebody’s mother…
Somebody’s lover…
Let’s talk about it…
1st verse
She was the type of girl
Always had her thoughts in the clouds
Shy child always feeling lost in the crowd
Eyes on the future couldn’t focus on the now
Wanted to find freedom
Just didn’t know how
She read a lot of books
But the books couldn’t tell her
Saw a lot of shrinks
All they ever did is bill her
All she really wanted was for somebody to heal her
She had this strange feeling that something was trying kill her
At times she couldn’t eat
Cause the pain ran deep
Back to when her uncle first woke her out of sleep
Stole her innocence at the tender age of six
And to tell the dark truth
Another couple times since
Now some would say, “How’d this man escape punishment?”
For a crime against his own kin that he’d never repent
She never said a word
Found another way to vent
Wrapped her soul into a poem
Through the paper and the pen
It went…Hook/Chorus (Norah Jones)Angels falling
Through my head
I want to meet them
Tomorrow
(Repeat)2nd verseEventually she left the little house of horrors and she went away to school
First year but she felt like a wise fool
Sophomore of life
Cause the pain and the strife
Had cut a deep scar on her soul just like a knife
And still she was strong
Knew she wasn’t in the wrong
But the scene kept invading her mind just like a song
Spent the whole day trying to scrub herself clean
But still felt dirty
Ashamed within her being
And yet she opened up
Made a friend on the bus
Man that made her laugh
Hoping him she could trust
Went from mere friends to talking about “us”
Drawing love signs on benches and in the dust
But was it love or was it lust?
It felt marvelous
But her mind still trembled with fear to feel the touch of a man
There’s so much in the touch of a hand
Reminded her of how it began
She started crying and ran

Hook/Chorus
3rd verse

Wanted to talk to her man
But he wouldn’t understand
And plus she didn’t want him to see her as less than
Called him on the phone said that we can try again
Just meet me at my residence hall around 10
Now ten o’clock came
She went to let him in
But deep down inside it didn’t feel right within
They slowly began
And body parts blend
Felt the warm of his mouth
And the tingle of his skin
His breath on her neck
And the taste of his sweat
But the peace she was hoping to find she didn’t get
And that’s when her body began to respond limply
Cause even with her lover inside her she felt empty
He woke the next morning saw she wasn’t in the bed
Paused for a second
Shook the lint from his head
Pills everywhere
Found her in the tub dead
With a diary on the floor she had written as a child
It read…

Hook/Chorus

I’m Looking 4 A Claire Huxtable

(SB)
Sean “SB” Butler
I’m Looking 4 A Claire Huxtable by Sean “SB” ButlerWhat happened to the love of Adam & Eve?
Strong enough to deceive
The Most High for?
Cry For?
Live For?
Die For?
That makes a brother risk a limb out in Darfur?
Or even more than the gore
Be a martyr?
Word to Jodeci
It’s crazy Lately
You gotta search forever for Forever My Lady
Cause just like making babies doesn’t make you a man
It doesn’t make you lady just because you’re woman
Cause now I’m seeing women deviate from the plan
Be talking that “I’m independent, I don’t need me a man!”
But that’s the bullish walking
Bullish talking
Ya’ll really wanna end up “Independent” in a coffin
With no
Children or Husband
No life
Without the substance
Devoid of the loving
The Father sent from up above and
We were created for each other
Did ya read that?
Way they’re moving nowadays they don’t believe that
But see I grew up on The Cosby Show
And while I had a lot of love for Weezy & Flo
They couldn’t compare
To the lady with the first name Claire
So all my Claire’s put ya hands in the airHook
I’m Looking 4 A Claire Huxtable
So intelligent and lovable
So compatible and beautiful
Never pull silly things they pull
I’m Looking 4 A Claire Huxtable
I’m Looking 4, I’m Looking 4 A Claire Huxtable
Never gullible but touchable
Keep it tight like a Luv-A-Bull
She makes a bruh feel comfortable
I’m Looking 4 A Claire Huxtable
I’m Looking 4, I’m Looking
2nd verse
You gotta beware the Claire impersonators
I know the type well
Wish she would die
That’s right I hate her
Or rather hate the Way That She Moves
Don’t really want her to die
But wish she would die to things that she do
Wish I had a magic flute
I would quickly Pied Pipe-her
And every woman that’s like her
The snakes, serpents and vipers
Metaphorically
Yes, I speak allegorically
So don’t be sending five-o after me
Please
I’m positive
So the negative attract to me
I guess they’re curious to what it is that’s backing me
So they be macking me
And this one in particular
Was a little cutie all around so I was digging her
Plus she kept the negative hidden
Just long enough to get smitten
That’s when my pretty little kitten
Turned into a Beast
I’m like, chill Nala, just cease
She’s looking at me like a wilderbeast
Something to eat
Came at me like, RARRGHH!
That’s when I saw she was a Scar
But a voice in the stars said remember who you areHook
3rd verse
To those that wanna be a Claire
But without a clue
I feel your pain
Here’s what I’m gonna do for you
Made a blueprint out
And every word is true
So listen close
Won’t nobody say it like I do
(Step One) Put your trust in the Lord
Do that in everything you do
You will never be bored
Use your Faith as your Shield
And your Spirit your Sword
So you will always be protected
When it rains it pours
(Step Two) To your own self must be true
Don’t follow what they do
You’re a queen
Do YOU
These women without men that tell you what to do
They wanna come out
Man, they wanna do you!
(Step 3) Ask God who your hubby should be
Chances are
Not a star
That you see on tv
I know that when I rhyme
Lot of women see me
But I can’t be the one to everyone, b
I think there’s someone for everyone, see?
So just trust God to show you who he be

FIGHTING FOR THE FUTURE

(SB)
Sean “SB” Butler

This song was inspired primarily by my niece, nephew and all the children of the world that will inherit the future that we give them. The events leading up to and during the Iraq War and overall “War On Terrorism” also gave me a lot of fuel for the sentiments in this song.

Fighting For the Future

Written by: Sean “SB” Butler

INTRO

The Future…
They say future’s what you make it
And since we got little eyes watching
And little ears listening
We gotta fight to make the future (yeah)

1st verse

Now when I look into the eyes of my lil niece
I wanna find a way to bring the whole world peace
While my country dropping bombs in the Middle East
I’m contemplating the war and how to make it cease
Cause we can all feast
Without having to steal from one another
We can heal one another
You can feel for a brother
It ain’t about black and white
It’s bout’ wrong and right
And raising our seeds to walk in the Light
Now wouldn’t that be a wonderful sight?
I hope my words make a spark like I’m Ben with the key and the kite
That’s the reason why I shake when I write
I feel the power of the Word’s taking me to a spiritual height
Where the promise of the tomorrow is bright
Where the angels sing praise with delight
Up in heaven like an eagle in flight
Now some people like to fight out of spit
I love the kids that’s the reason I fight
I keep fighting for the future

Hook

2nd verse

I barely, turn on the radio
I don’t like to play it yo
All I ever hear about is sex, dough, smoking dro
It makes me wonder what Malcolm and Martin died for
It’s like my people gave up and chose to turn whore
I can remember we were proud of who we were
Addressed each other with respect
Yes maam and yes sir
But now every word is a curse or a slur
And people put more worth in a rock or a fur
It’s like the world changed, all in one big blur
Ya’ll I’m gasping for air cause it’s hot up in hurr’
This Hip Hop game really ought to be ashamed
And that includes me, cause we all to blame
Check it, when did we let was hip to go lame?
Ya’ll I can’t really tell like I’m crying in the rain
But I’m a live for more than the fortune and the fame
Ya’ll we got young souls to save
I keep fighting for the future

Hook

3rd verse

I keep fighting for my nephew
With all the strength that I have
He’s such a beautiful child always making me laugh
But when I think about it, ya’ll I start to get grim
Cause them pentitentuaries they building, they built for him
And my beautiful niece
Either jailed or deceased
Is how they wanna see all of my children from the East
That’s why I’ll keep fighting for life and never cease
Whether here in America or there overseas
Cause yo, I can’t stop till we cure this disease
So I’m sharpening my pencils and I’m rolling up my sleeves
Play the role of a superman like Christopher Reeves
So I can see the beautiful seeds grow into trees
I’ve never been a follower
So I’m a take the lead
Word of God I read and properly take heed
So I can feed the seeds
Man, I know what they need
Even if I gotta struggle and bleed
I keep Fighting For The Future!

This Is HipHop

(SB)
Sean “SB” Butler produced by The Beat Royalty Group

Verse 1
Hip Hop is baggy blue jeans
The underground scene
The need for us to bury the fake
And Come Clean
The dreadlocks
Twisted braids and ball fades
Do-rags worn on waves with palmade
Puffy afros
The way you choose to rock your clothes
Some think it’s all about the blunts
Sipping Mo’
But it’s the millions of fans that show
Love at the shows
Crowd participation
Everybody say “Ho!”
HipHop is spinning vinyl
Energetic recital
Hungry emcess all striving to take the title
The voice of the streets
Spoken word over beats
Gemini mixers
Mics and techniques
Nation of the stressed and oppressed
Dying to speak
Hope and optimism even when it turns bleak
Magazines
Politicians
All wanna critique
But hip hop’s a way of life that helps meget through the week

Hook
Now all my people from the front to the back
That know how to react
Everybody let me see where you’re at
And say “This is Hip Hop”
Say “This is Hip Hop”
Now wave your hands from side to side
Everybody if you’re feeling the vibe
Let me see you get live
And say “This Is Hip Hop”
Say “This Is Hip Hop”

2nd
Yo it’s the voice of oppression
Voice of aggression
Voice of the stressing
It’s the voice of a blessing
The b-boys breaking in the street
Everybody bobbing to the beat
Trying to bring the heat
Several emcees in a cipher
Guaranteed to have people following like the pied piper
Graffiti art on the wall after dark
Old school rocking the mic out in the park
Hip Hop is revolution
Fighting the institution
Everyone building together for one solution
It’s something you feel
Bigger than you signing a deal
Bigger than you selling out for a mill
Bigger than these records exec’s that’s raping it still
Bigger than somebody getting shot saying they’re real
I know you’re hungry but it’s more than a meal
We can use to build
It’s worldwide
We can use it to heal

Hook

3rd vers
Now how they gon’ tell me how to give it
When I live it?
When I’m the one that wrote these rhymes and they didn’t it
Check it
Where were they when I felt this pain?
Where were they through the storm and the rain?
I don’t owe em’ a thing
Cause everything that they’re saying is lame
I ain’t in it for the fortune and fame
Best believe me
Cause yo this hiphop game it ain’t easy
Record company industry cats be so sleazy
Doing everything that they can
Just to appease me
Thinking that I’ll sell my soul to be on tv?
I just laugh
Patiently do the math
And tell em’ that my music’s on a whole nother’ path
Hip Hop thing
Dog you wouldn’t understand
I do this music with soul
You’d rather make it bland
But see as long as this mic’s in my hand
I’m a be a gladiator and stand
A true man

Nothing outside of the cypher can intervene
Many others talk about it
Us we be about it
I Adorn You with this love
Cause you’re that rare and exotic
So cherish this inside of your heart
And never doubt it
Couple it with Faith
Together we’ll move mountains
Know they say it’s only a year
But who’s counting?
Let it go
Let it flow
Like the water from a fountain
Your whole energy is amazing
Like I’m eternally bathing
Within your spiritual
Way more than a physical thing
Being with you ain’t bout a house or a ring
It’s bout the joy that you bring
That supersedes these material things
So I’m a be the sunlight that you reflect as the moon
So I can hear your heart swoon when I step in the room
See loving you
I was born to
I know your body be the temple of God
When I approach it I adorn you…

LIVIN’ LIFE (& LOVING IT)

(SB)
Sean “SB” Butler
verse 1
I’ve been officially SB
Since 1973
Can’t a record company
Tell me how to be me
I rhyme for freedom and salvation
Sean was sent save a nation
Despite all this terrorism and degradation
An emcee that speaks words with substance
Most rappers get on the mic and say NOTHING
Child of destiny perpetual survivor
My soul right with God plus my mind like McGuyver
See I was taught that living life is a gift
That’s why I’m always very conscious with these words that I spit
I’m not the type sell my soul out of greed
They can give you what you want I’m here to give you what you need
As for these terrorists listen up and hear it
You can kill my body but you’ll never kill my spirit
Thinking you can scare me with death I never fear it
God is in control of my ship you can’t steer it
Happiness is circumstantial joy is eternal
That’s why I feel at peace in the midst of inferno
When it’s my time to go then I’m a go
But in meantime yo you need to know
I’m living life and I’m loving it
Hook
verse 2
So many people want to change me
Rearrange me
When will they understand it’s God that ordained me
Cops want to pull me from cars just to arrain me
Set me up and frame me
Beat me down and maim me
But I ain’t having that
I’m not your average cat
I studied the law
I’ll hit you with that
You’ll have a lawsuit at your at a door with a coke and smile
Numbers to dial
See you in court
We’re taking no shorts
You held the people down for much too long
We’re much to strong
Time to lift the right from the wrong
And so I rhyme for revolution and revelation
Pouring these words as libation
To heal and soothe a wounded nation
Instead of praying for war I pray for world peace
Long as we keep playing tit for tat this will never cease
I’m living every day like my last
Spreading love going out with a blast
I’m living life and I’m loving it
Hook
verse 3
They say that art imitates life
My music IS life and breathes life
Words to live by and be right
I fight something like the gladiator
In the theater
To make make my people greater
Sent to be a vindicator
I know my people like the back of my hand
The struggles they stand
Current terror gripping the land
But I’m determined not to let life live me I live life
Keep the Light in sight
Use the Word to fight strife
I want to spread love with all I might
The beacon in the night
North Star shining burning bright
Leading slaves to freedom
Time for carpe diem
I’m living life and I’m loving it
Hook
